Topic 13: AI in Recruitment and Talent Development

By Glenda Hartman · May 13, 2026

Recruitment and talent development are changing rapidly as organisations adopt AI tools to improve efficiency.

Some companies now use AI to:

  • screen CVs,
  • identify suitable candidates,
  • analyse interview responses,
  • track employee performance,
  • and recommend training opportunities.

Supporters argue that AI can save time and help organisations process large numbers of applications more efficiently.

However, concerns also exist around fairness and bias. AI systems learn from existing data, and biased data may lead to unfair hiring or development decisions.

There is also concern that recruitment may become too automated, reducing meaningful human interaction during the hiring process.

In talent development, AI may help organisations identify skills gaps and personalise training pathways for employees. This could improve workplace learning opportunities and career development.

The challenge is ensuring that technology supports fair and balanced decision-making rather than replacing human judgement entirely.
