Topic 15: The Role of Human Oversight in AI-Generated Work

By Glenda Hartman · May 15, 2026

AI can produce impressive results very quickly, but human oversight remains essential.

AI tools may generate reports, assessments, emails, training materials, or recommendations, but they do not fully understand context, ethics, workplace culture, or organisational priorities.

Without proper review, AI-generated content may include:

  • factual errors,
  • biased language,
  • inappropriate recommendations,
  • or misleading information.

In workplace learning and development, human oversight is especially important when:

  • assessing learner work,
  • creating training materials,
  • making performance decisions,
  • or handling sensitive information.

Employees should therefore view AI as a support tool and not as a replacement for accountability or professional responsibility.

Organisations also need clear processes to ensure that AI-generated work is reviewed before being used in important decisions or official communication.

Technology may continue advancing, but human judgement remains critical.
