Topic 17: How Learners Are Using AI for Workplace Assessments

By Glenda Hartman · May 17, 2026

AI is changing how many learners approach workplace assessments and assignments.

Some learners use AI responsibly to:

  • improve grammar,
  • organise ideas,
  • summarise information,
  • or assist with research.

Others may rely too heavily on AI-generated answers without fully understanding the content.

This creates important challenges for facilitators, assessors, and organisations. A polished assignment does not always reflect genuine competence or understanding.

Workplace learning should focus not only on completing assessments, but also on developing practical skills, critical thinking, and real understanding.

Training providers may therefore need to:

  • redesign assessments,
  • include more practical activities,
  • encourage discussion-based learning,
  • and develop clear AI usage guidelines.

AI is unlikely to disappear from learning environments. The challenge is learning how to use it ethically and responsibly.

Discussion Point

Should learners be allowed to use AI for workplace assessments if they still demonstrate understanding? We'd like to hear your thoughts.
