Topic 18: AI and Academic Integrity in Training Programmes

By Glenda Hartman · May 18, 2026

Academic integrity remains an important issue in workplace learning and training environments.

AI tools can now generate essays, assignments, summaries, and even assessment responses within seconds. While this may improve efficiency, it also raises concerns about authenticity and fairness.

If learners submit AI-generated work as their own without understanding the material, the learning process may be weakened.

For training providers and employers, this creates important questions:

  • How should AI use be monitored?
  • What counts as acceptable assistance?
  • And how can genuine competence still be assessed?

Some organisations are moving away from purely written assessments and placing greater focus on:

  • practical demonstrations,
  • discussions,
  • workplace observations,
  • and problem-solving activities.

The goal should not simply be catching AI use, but ensuring that real learning still takes place.

Discussion Point

How should organisations balance the benefits of AI with the need for academic integrity? We'd like to hear your thoughts.
