Topic 20: How AI Can Improve Productivity Without Increasing Burnout

By Glenda Hartman · May 20, 2026

Many employees already feel overwhelmed by growing workloads, constant communication, and increasing workplace demands. AI is often promoted as a solution for improving productivity, but productivity should not come at the cost of employee wellbeing.

Used responsibly, AI may help reduce pressure by:

  • automating repetitive tasks,
  • organising information,
  • improving workflow efficiency,
  • and reducing administrative burdens.

This may give employees more time to focus on meaningful work, problem-solving, and collaboration.

However, there is also a risk that organisations may expect employees to produce even more simply because AI tools exist.

Technology should support healthier work practices and not create unrealistic expectations or constant pressure to perform faster.

Workplace wellbeing, work-life balance, and sustainable productivity remain important, regardless of how advanced technology becomes.
