Topic 8: How AI Is Transforming Learning and Development
Learning and development is one of the workplace areas being most affected by AI. Organisations are under pressure to train staff faster, more efficiently, and often with fewer resources. AI is helping many training providers and employers meet these demands.
AI can assist with:
- creating learning materials,
- generating quizzes and assessments,
- summarising training content,
- personalising learning pathways,
- and translating information into simpler language.
For example, a facilitator preparing a workplace skills programme can now use AI to draft activities, generate examples, or create discussion questions within minutes. This can save valuable preparation time.
However, effective learning still requires human involvement. Good facilitators do more than present information. They encourage participation, understand learner needs, and adapt training based on the group.
There is also the risk that learners may rely too heavily on AI-generated answers without developing real understanding. This is becoming a growing concern in workplace learning environments.
AI may improve access to learning, but organisations must still focus on meaningful engagement, critical thinking, and practical application.
Discussion Point
Do you think AI will improve workplace learning overall, or could it reduce genuine understanding? We'd like to hear your thoughts.
